Characters & Plot: In the "Lady Of Bolton Hill" the main characters of the novel are Clara Endicott and Daniel Tremain's. The book begins oddly because she is in jail before she entered court, "Clara was startled by the metallic clank as the lock on her cell door turned"( Camden 25). Clara and Daniel were both huge fans of music and they both started composing music together before she left back home, "She and Daniel had begun composing music together before she left Baltimore"( Camden 37). When Clara was dismissed from England was when she actually got started to get to writing her romance novels again, "Her father was one of the few men in the entire country who was willing to publish the writings of a woman"( Camden 51). Clara and Daniel were like "best friends" but after the time came and she had to leave she came back 12 years later. Not only that also that with time her attitude/personality changed but she never changed the way she felt about Daniel. Clara was a character that wanted to speak for the disadvantaged people who had no say in the society (Book Cover).
Important Themes and Symbols: Elizabeth Camden is trying to show that she is a determined writer by showing the reader how detailed she is while on her journey of writing, "The blood drained from Daniel's face"( Camden 8). In the books that she writes she tries to show expression in her words to make the reader feel like if they are experiencing what is actually happening in the novel just like the character, "It was a boiler explosion"( Camden 8). Another good method that she uses is trying to make the reader picture the scenes, "Daniel glanced at the twisted fire tubes and the ruined boiler"( Camden 9). Basically telling the reader "oh look there is action happening pay attention to the action that is coming up next" because her point is drag the readers eyes/focus into the book. When she says, "If looks could kill, Daniel would be a dead man"( Camden 41) and since Daniel was an important person to the society and had many enemies that would wish him bad that would've deeply affected him through out the novel.
